PURPOSE: To produce a 6-halogeno-2-hydroxyquinoxaline useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals in high yield, by catalytically hydrogenating a halogeno-substituted quinoxaline derivative, dehalogenating the derivative to give a quinoxaline derivative and further carrying out this method.
CONSTITUTION: A halogeno-substituted quinoxaline derivative (e.g. 7-halogeno-2- hydroxyquinoxaline) shown by formula I (R1 and R2 are H, alkyl, carboxyl, carboxy ester, hydroxy or alkoxy; A1WA4 are H, hydroxyl, alkyl, carboxyl or halogen and at least one of A1WA4 is halogen) is catalytically hydrogenated in the presence of a hydrogenating agent, dehalogenated, further optionally dehydrogenated and further optionally halogenated to give a compound (e.g. 6-halogeno-2-hydroxyquinoxaline) shown by formula II (B1WB4 are A1WA4 and at least one of B1WB4 is H or halogen).
