Title:
PRODUCTION OF SUGAR ALCOHOL PERACETYLATED FROM SUGAR ALCOHOLHAVING AT LEAST FOUR CARBON ATOMS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS62234045
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
The peracetylation of sugar alcohols having at least four carbon atoms is made more economical in respect of catalyst demand and acetic anhydride consumption by acetylating in two steps, the first step comprising partial acetylation of the sugar alcohol with acetic acid using no catalyst and, subsequently, separating any excess acetic acid and the reaction water, and the second step comprising peracetylation of the partially acetylated product by heating with acetic anhydride in the presence of relatively small amounts of alkali acetate as catalyst.
