Abstract:

To provide a method for producing an intermediate for producing an antibiotic and produce the intermediate.

A compound represented by the formula: X1CH2(OH)CH2CO2R2 (X1 is a halogen; R2 is a lower alkyl) is reacted with a compound represented by the formula: R1SH (R1 is t-butyl, an aralkyl or the like) or its salt in the presence of a base to provide a compound represented by the formula: R1SCH2 CH(OH)CH2CO2R2, which is then treated with a halogenating reagent to afford a compound represented by the formula: X2CH2CH(SR1)CH2CO2R2 (X2 is a halogen). The resultant compound is subsequently treated in the presence of an amine to thereby produce a compound represented by the formula.
