Title:
PRODUCTION OF TERTIARY BUTYL ALCOHOL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0859528
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To efficiently produce t-butyl alcohol by non-catalytically reacting isobutane with oxygen, circulating unreacted isobutane and subjecting the reaction mixture to hydroperoxide decomposition reaction.

In an oxidation reactor 10, the isobutane from line 14 is reacted with the oxygen from the line 12 to obtain the primary liquid reaction mixture. The mixture is separated by a distillation column 20 into isobutane recycling fraction and the liquid heavy fraction. The heavy fraction is diluted with t-butyl alcohol, then fed to the hydroperoxide decomposition reactor 50, in which almost all of the t-butyl hydroperoxide is converted to t-butyl alcohol. The t-butyl alcohol is collected by the line 82. In addition, a part of the heavy liquid fraction 24 may be fed to the epoxidation reaction zone 72, too. From this line, the product, t-butyl alcohol is obtained through line 78.
