Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tertiary (di)carboxylic acid in high yield and selectivity without using a strong acid solution and without being accompanied by such problems as corrosion, etc., of facility by reacting CO with an olefin, an alcohol or a diene in the presence of a strongly acidic solid acid.
SOLUTION: At least one kind of compound selected from the group consisting of ≥4C olefin and alcohol is reacted with CO in the presence of a sulfuric acid radical-supported metal oxide (preferably sulfuric acid radical- supported zirconia or titania) or a silver-added sulfuric acid radical-supported metal oxide (preferably silver-added sulfuric acid radical-supported zirconia) to provide the objective tertiary carboxylic acid. The reaction is preferably carried out in at least one kind of aprotic solvent selected from an aliphatic hydrocarbon such as hexane, an alicyclic hydrocarbon or the like such as cyclohexane. The tertiary dicarboxylic acid can be obtained by carrying out the similar reaction by using ≥8C diene and CO as raw materials.
