Title:
PRODUCTION OF THICK STEEL PLATE HAVING EXCELLENT HYDROGEN INDUCED CRACKING RESISTANCE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS62176601
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve yield by cutting off the upper part of a steel ingot cast by a unidirectional solidifying method in such a manner that a carbon equiv. and content of S attain prescribed values or below and rolling said ingot.

CONSTITUTION: The steel ingot is cast by pouring a molten steel into a flat casting mold and unidirectionally solidifying the molten steel from the lower part toward the upper part of the casting mold. The upper part of the steel ingot is cut off and conditioned under such conditions as to satisfy ≤0.54% carbon equiv. CeqHIC and ≤0.002% content of S; thereafter, the steel ingot is rolled. The over cutting off of the upper part of the steel ingot is thereby obviated and the yield is improved.
