Abstract:
To obtain a thioanisole by one step using a chlorobenzene as a starting material by subjecting the chlorobenzene to a reaction with methyl mercaptan in a gaseous phase on an activated carbon catalyst.
This thioanisole is produced by a reaction of a chlorobenzene with methyl mercaptan in a gaseous phase on an activated carbon catalyst preferably at 350-550°C by one step. The activated carbon may be either coconut shell derived or coal derived active carbon.
