Title:
PRODUCTION OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL FABRIC C-C COMPOSITE CAPABLE OF FREELY CONTROLLING DIRECTION OF HEAT CONDUCTIVITY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH03164415
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a high strength three-dimensional fabric C-C composite capable of freely controlling the direction of heat conductivity by impregnating a carbon source into a three-dimensional fabric of carbon fibers having anisotropic heat conductivity as a reinforcing material and burning the carbon source.

CONSTITUTION: A three-dimensional fabric of carbon fibers having arbitrary anisotropic heat conductivity is formed by using carbon fibers made from polyacrylonitrile, pitch, etc., and changing the constitution, orientation ratio and content. A carbon source is impregnated into the fabric, carbonized and graphitized by burning. Pitch, gaseous hydrocarbon or phenol resin may be used as the carbon source. The graphitizing temp. is properly selected within the range of about 1,200-3,000°C. A C-C composite having superior mechanical strength and capable of freely controlling the direction of heat conductivity is obtd.
