PURPOSE: The first fiber-forming component and the second component with a different solubility from the first one are subjected to conjugate spinning and at least a part of the second component is removed to easily produce the titled fiber with sufficient water absorption and less deterioration of yarn qualities.
CONSTITUTION: A fiber-forming polymer such as polyacrylonitrile, polyamide or polyester is used as the first component 1 and a polymer that is different in solubility or decomposability from the first component and capable of conjugate spinning with the first one, preferably soluble in or hydrolyzable with water or an aqueous alkali, such as polyalkyleneoxide-modified polyester, is used as the second component to produce a conjugate fiber in which the area of the second component is at least 10% in the cross section (A), the surface share is less than 2.0% (B) and A/B is more than 2.5. The resultant fiber is treated with an alkali to remove at least a part of the second component to produce the titled fiber, e.g., with the hollow part following the opening 5.
