PURPOSE: To obtain a calcium silicate molding having high water repellency and excellent in physical properties such as specific strength inexpensively by bringing vapor of alkoxysilane into contact with a calcium silicate compact.
CONSTITUTION: Vapor of alkoxysilane such as trimethoxymethylsilane is brought into contact with a porous calcium silicate compact produced by dehydrating and compacting a slurry of calcium silicate hydrate crystals as usual to produce the objective water-repellent calcium silicate molding. Expensive silicone oil added to starting material for compacting in the conventional method is partially lost in a dehydrating and compacting process and is liable to decompose during heat curing and to adversely affect the physical properties of a product. The vapor phase alkoxysilane as a treating agent surely modifies the porous calcium silicate molding up to the core part and can impart high water repellency.
