Title:
PRODUCTION OF WEAR RESISTANT BAR STEEL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3030675
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a bar steel excellent in wear resistance by subjecting a slab of a medium- or high-carbon steel having specific composition to hot rolling and heat treatment under respectively specified temp. conditions.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of producing a bar steel excellent in wear resistance required of a member for construction machinery, a billet of a steel, which has a composition containing, by weight, 0.30-1.10% C, 0.1-1.8% Si, 0.5-2.0% Mn, 0.05-0.1% sol.Al, 0.005-0.03% N, and 0.1-1.0% of one or ≥2 elements among Ti, Zr, Nb, and V or further containing at least one kind among 0.1-1.0% Ni, 0.1-1.5% Cr, 0.05-0.5% Mo, and 0.0005-0.0050% B or specific small amounts of one or more free cutting elements, such as S, Pb, Bi, Se, Te, and Ca, is hot-rolled, finish-rolled at a temp. between the Ac3 point and 1050°C, and worked into bar shape. The surface of the resulting bar-shaped rolled stock is subjected to quenching hardening down to a temp. not higher than the Ms point and then to self-tempering at 300-700°C by means of self-retained heat. By this method, the steel bar material in which the surface layer part is composed of a structure having hard tempered martensite and hard metal carbide and which has superior wear resistance can be obtained.
