To provide a projection display apparatus capable of quickly turning on a lamp again without complicating the configuration of the apparatus.

The projection display apparatus includes: a light source 11; a light source controller 31 that controls turning-on and turning-off of the light source 11; cooling air generators 2 and 32 that generate cooling air for cooling the light source 11 while selectively corresponding to degree of cooling at a plurality of stages; and a cooling controller 33 that instructs the cooling air generators 2 and 32 to generate cooling air having the degree of cooling higher than that at a regular stage in response to a situation that the light source controller 31 fails to turn on the light source 11.
