Abstract:

To provide a projection type display device in which the contrast ratio of a projection image is greatly improved.

The projection type display device comprises: a light source 30; an illuminating optical means 38; a color separation optical means 41; polarizing plates 50, 51, and 52 on the incident side; optical phase compensation plates 53, 54, and 55; liquid crystal panels 56, 57, and 58; a color combining optical means 72; a projection lens 73; polarizing plates 62 and 64 on the emission side for red and blue optical paths; and two polarizing plates 60 and 61 having high polarization degree, used as polarizing plates on the emission side for a green optical path.
