Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact projection type display device which can perform color display of high contrast.
SOLUTION: The projection type display device has a light source 106, dichroic mirrors 402 and 403 to composite an image formed by a plurality of reflection type light valves 501, while light separating the light from the light source 106 into a plurality of different color lights and an imaging lens 101 to perform image-formation of the image of the light composited by the dichroic mirrors 402 and 403. The reflection type light valve 501 is placed in a state that the center has moved in parallel from the optical axis of the imaging lens 101, so that the direction of long side meet the line of intersection of the dichroic mirrors 402 and 403. Moreover, the imaging lens 101 is placed, so as to intersect with respect to the surface defined by the central axis of the light flux passing each reflection type light valve 501 with the same angle of inclination as the angle of each reflection type light valve. Therefore, the color display high in the contrast becomes possible, and the depth of the whole device can be reduced.
