PURPOSE: To provide a composition effective as a promoter when added into a paint stripping bath of alkali metal hydroxides base.

CONSTITUTION: This composition comprises a mixture consisting of (a) about 1 pt.wt. of polyalkylenepolyamine shown by the formula, (R1)(R2)NXN(R1)(R2) {wherein, R1 and R2 are each one selected from the group comprising hydrogen atom, (lower)alkyl group and [CH2CH(Y)O]mH group, wherein Y is hydrogen atom or lower alkyl group, (m) is 1 to 4 and X is polyoxy(lower)alkylene component} and (b) 1 to 3 pts.wt. of glycol compounds including (lower)alkyleneglycol (lower)alkylether, (lower)alkyleneglycol phenylether and mixtures of these.
