PURPOSE: To prevent a molded piece from having an unevenness in strength and a poor appearance by a method wherein after a fiber sheet is impregnated with a resin using release sheets, the release sheet on one surface is removed, and the fiber sheet is once heated to a temperature at which the viscosity of the matrix resin is lowered to 20 P or less.
CONSTITUTION: Strands 2 of carbon fibers are paid out in parallel to each other from a creel stand 1 through a comb-type positioning device 3 to be paralleled. This is extended to a sheet form by extending bars 4. Matrix resin- holding release paper 5 are set through heating rolls 6 to be nipped by the rolls and combined with the sheet, furthermore again being nipped by heating rolls 7 for impregnating the carbon fibers with a matrix resin. Next, the sheet is cooled to ordinary temperature by a cooling plate 8 and drawn off by nip rolls 9. The release paper 10 on one side is removed. The sheet is once heated to a temperature at which the viscosity of the matrix resin is lowered to 20 P or less. This is brought into contact with a cooling plate 12 to be again cooled to ordinary temperature. The prepreg sheet with release paper 13 is taken up in a roll form by a take-up device 14.
