To obtain the subject therapeutic agent containing gluconic acid or its salt as an active component, having a suppressive activity against the lowering of magnesium absorption attributable to an excess intake of phosphorus or calcium and useful for prophylaxis, treatment, etc., of hypertension, ischemic heart disease, etc.
This therapeutic agent contains gluconic acid or its salt, preferably calcium gluconate as an active component. Further, as the gluconic acid, e.g. any compound selected from D-isomer, L-isomer and DL-racemate can be used. Optionally, a nutritional component such as a casein enzyme- decomposed product or vitamin D, a vehicle or an extender such as lactose, a starch or a dextrin, etc., is compounded. In the case where calcium gluconate is used, a daily dose is preferably 500mg to 1g in terms of calcium.
