To provide a protective material which can adsorb and remove a very small amount of a gaseous organic chemical substance permeated through a moisture permeable film layer by a gas adsorbing layer and can protect a wearer against the penetration of the gas from the abraded or damaged part formed during use, a joined part or a fastener part and is made lightweight, flexible and highly moisture-permeable in order to suppress the heat stress of the wearer, and protective clothes.

The protective material comprises at least one moisture permeable film layer with a moisture permeability of 60-850 g/m2×h and at least one layer (gas adsorbing layer) containing a gas adsorbing substance and is characterized in that at least one moisture permeable film layer is arranged to the outside of the gas adsorbing layer when the protective material is looked from the inside of clothes. The protective clothes are also disclosed.
