To provide a lightweight and flexible highly moisture permeable protective material containing at least one permselective layer, which has a permeation suppressing capacity against a gaseous organic chemical substance and steam permeability, laminated thereto by an adhesive so as not to lower the moisture permeability of the permselective layer, and protective clothing.

The protective material contains at least one permselective layer having the permeation suppressing capacity against the gaseous organic chemical substance and having steam permeability. The permselective layer contains at least 60 wt.% or above of a cellulose derivative, and the permselective layer and other layer are laminated by an adhesive with a melt index of 100 g/10 min or below. The protective clothing is also disclosed.
