To provide a light, flexible and high moisture-permeable protective material and protective clothing which absorb and remove a minute amount of gaseous organic compounds passed though a moisture-permeable film layer, protects a wearer from gas penetration through abrasions or flaws generated during use or through connected parts or fastener parts, and suppresses the heat stress of the wearer.

The protective material and protective clothing have at least one layer or more of a moisture-permeable film layer containing a polyurethane and a layer containing a gas-absorbing material (a gas absorbing layer). The moisture-permeable layer and the other layers are laminated by using an adhesive having a melt index of 100 g/10 min or less.
