The proton membrane has a polymer impregnated layer which is formed by impregnating [B] unwoven cloth with [A] polyarylene system copolymer and a layer which is in contact with the polymer impregnated layer on both sides and is composed of the [A] polyarylene system copolymer. [A] is a polyarylene system copolymer containing a fused aromatic ring structural unit expressed by formula (2) and a structural unit having a sulfonic acid group expressed by formula (13) and [B] is unwoven cloth composed of continuous fiber with a voidage within a range of 60 to 95%.
