Abstract:

To obtain a proton conducting membrane which is hardly wrinkled, has great strength, excels in size stability and excels in durability over a long period.

The proton membrane has a polymer impregnated layer which is formed by impregnating [B] unwoven cloth with [A] polyarylene system copolymer and a layer which is in contact with the polymer impregnated layer on both sides and is composed of the [A] polyarylene system copolymer. [A] is a polyarylene system copolymer containing a fused aromatic ring structural unit expressed by formula (2) and a structural unit having a sulfonic acid group expressed by formula (13) and [B] is unwoven cloth composed of continuous fiber with a voidage within a range of 60 to 95%. In formula (2), A and D indicate direct coupling, one kind of structure selected from a group composed by -O-, -S-, -CO-, -SO2-, etc., B indicates an atomic oxygen, Ph indicates a binary radical having a fused aromatic ring structure, R1to R20indicate one kind of atom or radical that is selected from a group composed of hydrogen atom, fluorine atom, alkyl group and nitril group, etc., l, m indicate integral numbers from 0 to 4, q indicates an integral number that is 2 or more and t indicates an integral number from 0 to 4. A composition ratio of respective composition unit is indicated by n, p. In formula (13), Z indicates direct coupling or at least one of structure selected from a group composed of -O-, -S-. Y indicates one kind of structure selected from a group composed of -CO-, -SO2-, etc. Ar indicates an aromatic group having a substituent expressed by -SO3H, -O(CH2)hSO3H. c, d indicate integral numbers from 0 to 10 and k indicates integral numbers from 1 to 4.
