To provide a pulse light forming device capable of changing pulse widths.
The pulse light forming device 10 has a light source 1 and a photonic crystalline body 2. The photonic crystalline body 2 consists of a face-centered cubic lattice structure two-dimensionally or three-dimensionally arrayed with rod-like GaAs at specified intervals and has photonic bands. Pulse light PH 1 having a single pulse component emitted from the light source 1 has an energy distribution on the upper bands of the photonic bands. The pulse light PH 1 made incident on the photonic crystalline body 2 propagates in the upper bands of the densely compacted photonic bands and give rise to phase differences between the components having respective energy values. Interference occurs between the components where the phase differences arise and the pulse light PH 2 having the pulse width of femto second order is emitted from the photonic crystalline body 2.
