To enhance the precision of pupil detection and to realize the miniaturization of the whole device.
A pupil detecting device 1 has a light source 3 irradiating illuminating light and a camera 2 photographing the bright pupil image and the dark pupil image of an object person. The camera 2 is equipped with: a photographing element 6 photographing each of the bright pupil image and the dark pupil image; an opening portion 8 arranged facing the object person and for introducing the image of the object person into the photographing element 6; and an objective lens 7 arranged between the opening portion 8 and the photographing element 6 and forming the bright pupil image and dark pupil image toward the photographing element 6. The light source 3 has a plurality of light emitting elements 3a arranged along the fringe of the opening portion 8 outside of the opening portion 8. The light emitting elements 3a have containers 10 at least the front faces of which are formed of a light transmitting material and LED tips 11a, 11b arranged in the front faces of the same so as to have common directivity and emitting the illuminating light of center wavelength of 850 nm and the illuminating light of center wavelength of 950 nm toward the object person.
