PURPOSE: To decolor and to deodorize fats and oils effectively, by deoxidizing raw oil, adding china clay and water or an aqueous solution of acidic substance so that the oil is decolored, followed by removal of china clay and deodorization.
CONSTITUTION: Raw oil, e.g., soybean oil, colza acid, corn oil, etc. is subjected to deoxidation treatment by alkali purification, steam distillation, etc. to prepare deoxidized oil. A fout 0.3W2wt% china clay and water or 0.1W2wt% based on the deoxidized oil of 1wt% or saturated aqueous solution of an acidic substance such as an organic acid, e.g., citric acid, acetic acid, succinic acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, etc. or an inorganic acid, e.g., phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, etc. are added to the deoxidized oil. While being preferably heated with stirring so that decoloring is carried out. China clay is removed by means of filteration, centrifugal separation, etc. and deodorization is done by steam distillation, etc.
