Abstract:

To provide simple and effective method for purifying nitric oxide usable for medical purposes without further generating nitrogen dioxide having high toxicity.

A gas mixture containing nitric oxide, inert gas as desired, a small amount of nitrogen dioxide, and possibly moisture and sulfur dioxide, is purified by passing a gas stream through a bed of silica, alumina or zeolite without containing metal cations. Concentration of nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and moisture in the gas stream is significantly reduced as the gas mixture passes through the adsorbent bed.
