To provide a method for purifying a nucleic acid, capable of readily carrying out a process for catching the nucleic acid into a solid phase, a process for washing the caught nucleic acid and a process for eluting the caught and washed nucleic acid by the use of a chip having a solid phase built therein by detachably connecting the chip having the silica-containing solid phase built therein and used for catching the nucleic acid to a movable nozzle for sucking or releasing a liquid.
A chip 31 having a silica-containing solid phase built therein and used for catching nucleic acid is detachably connected to a movable nozzle for sucking or releasing liquid, and the movable nozzle can be moved with a nozzle holder 34 in the horizontal direction and in the longitudinal direction of an arm 33. A liquid mixture of a substance (guanidine hydrochloride, etc.) for accelerating the bonding of the nucleic acid to the solid phase with a specimen containing the nucleic acid is sucked into the chip for catching the nucleic acid to bind the nucleic acid to the solid phase, and the liquid is discharged. A washing liquid is sucked and subsequently discharged. An elution solution containing the nucleic acid is sucked and then discharged into a container 26 for the purified product.
