PURPOSE: To provide a safe method for purifying pyridine borane in a high purification yield, not requiring a filtration operation, and largely reducing the water content of the pyridine borane in comparison with conventional techniques.
CONSTITUTION: This method for purifying pyridine borane by reacting pyridine with boron hydride and a mineral acid or a Lewis acid and subsequently purifying the produced pyridine borane from the reaction solution contains four processes comprising (1) a process for adding water or an alkali aqueous solution to the reaction solution containing the pyridine borane stirring and subsequently removing an aqueous solution containing the inorganic salt to obtain the organic layer, (2) a process for adding an alkali to the organic layer to remove water remaining in the organic layer, (3) a process for separating the aqueous layer containing the alkali to obtain the crude pyridine borane, and (4) a process for concentrating the crude pyridine borane to remove low boiling point components containing the water and the pyridine contained in the crude pyridine borane obtained in the process (3).
