To protect a PWM-type motor controller as well as to prevent the controller from turning into a non-controllable state, when abnormal current occurs.
In a motor controller which controls the electric current flowing to a motor by using a PWM system, interrupt and resisting control means (13 and 14), which restart the supply of PWM commands after interrupting the supply of PWM commands in at least one shape when an actual current flowing or at least one phase of a motor exceeds a prescribed value, are provided. The control means (13 and 14) conducts such a control that when the actual current flowing to the motor reaches a preset abnormal level, the control means (13 and 14) interrupt and restart the supply of the PWM commands. In addition, the control means (13 and 14) protect a device by returning the current flowing to the motor to a normal level from the abnormal level by interrupting the supply of the PWM commands. After the motor current has returned to the normal level by the the interrupt of the supply of the PWM commands, in addition, the control means (13 and 14) prevent a motor controller from turning into a non-controlling state by performing control, with use of the PWM commands by restarting the supply of the PWM commands.
