PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compd. useful as an antiasthmatic, antiallergic, antiinflammatory and cytoprotective agent.
CONSTITUTION: This invention provides a compd. expressed by formula I or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts. In formula I, R1, R5 are each H, OH, etc.; R2 is H, a lower alkyl, etc.; R3 is H, a lower alkyl, etc.; R4, R6, R7 are H, a lower alkyl; R8 is a halogen, a lower alkyl, etc.; R9 is H, a halogen, etc.; R10 is H, a halogen, etc.; X1 is O, S, etc.; X2 is N, N(O), etc.; X3 is CH2O, CH2CH2, etc.; formula II is phenyl, 1 or 2-naphthyl; (m) is 0 to 2; (n) is 1, 2. The compd. is, for example, 3hydroxymethyl4-phenyl7-[3[4-(4methoxy) tetrahydropyranyl ]benzyloxy]2-naphthoic acid. The compd. of formula I is obtd., for example, by coupling a compd. expressed by formula IV which is obtd. by the reaction using 3-benzyloxybenzaldehyde expressed by formula III as the starting material with a benzyl halide such as 3-[4(4-methoxy) tetrahydropyranyl ]benzylbromide.
