This compound shown by formula I (X is cyano, carboxyl, or a group derived from carboxyl group; R1 and R3 are each H or methyl; R2 is an alkylene or carbonyl; R4 and R5 are each H or an alkyl), e.g. 2- cyano-4-(3-butenyl)pyridine or 2-carboxy-4-(3-butenyl)pyridine, is obtained e.g. by reacting a pyridine derivative of formula II with a base such as a lithium compound (e.g. lithium amide), followed by reacting the resultant product with a halide shown by formula III (Z is a halogen) (e.g. 3-chloropropylene).
