To effectively peel and remove decomposed residues deposited on the heat transfer surface of a pyrolysis vessel which pyrolyses polystyrenes.
The pyrolysis apparatus is equipped with a pyrolysis vessel 7 pyrolysing a polystyrene solution. A heat exchange section 10 heating the polystyrene solution and a spray means 40 spraying the polystyrene solution are provided in the pyrolysis vessel 7. A relatively low temperature polystyrene solution sprayed from spray nozzles 41 of the spray means 40 contacts with the polystyrene solution maintained at a high temperature, is quickly heated and produces bubbles. The destructive force of the bubbles peels the decomposition residues deposited on the heat transfer surface of the heat exchange section 10.
