Abstract:
The invention describes a method of treating a halogen lamp ( 1 ) comprising a filament ( 4 ) supported by legs ( 3, 3 ') in a vitreous bulb ( 2 ) enclosing a halogenated hydrocarbon fill gas (G), which method comprises applying heat and/or radiation to the lamp ( 1 )-prior to initial operation of the lamp ( 1 )-from a source (S 1 , S 2 ) external to the lamp ( 1 ), so that the halogenated hydrocarbon fill gas (G) is cracked and carbon is deposited essentially at a specific region (R 1 , R 2 ) of the lamp ( 1 ), whereby the specific region (R 1 , R 2 ) of the lamp ( 1 ) is a region in the lamp ( 1 ) other than the legs ( 3, 3 ') of the filament ( 4 ) of the lamp ( 1 ). The invention also describes a method of manufacture of a halogen lamp ( 1 ), and a halogen lamp ( 1 ) comprising a vitreous bulb ( 2 ) enclosing a cracked halogenated hydrocarbon fill gas (G), in which carbon of the cracked halogenated hydrocarbon fill gas (G) has been deposited on one or more regions (R 1 , R 2 ) of the lamp ( 1 ) other than the legs ( 3, 3 ') of the filament ( 4 ) of the lamp ( 1 ).
