Abstract:
The present invention provides: a positive electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery that can exhibit excellent cycle properties and excellent rate properties even when charged at a high voltage; and a process for producing the positive electrode active material. A positive electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery, characterized by comprising particles (X) each produced by coating the surface of a lithium-containing composite oxide with an oxide (I) as mentioned below, wherein the lithium-containing composite oxide comprises a Li element and at least one transition metal element selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co and Mn (wherein the molar amount of the Li element is more than 1.2 times the total molar amount of the transition metal element). Oxide (I): an oxide containing at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of Nb and Mo.
