Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a quantization level without increasing a quantization error and to improve encoding efficiency when a quantization step size of digital signal encoding is decided.
SOLUTION: A small block is previously quantized by a reference quantization step size obtained in accordance with a rule which is previously decided. Common divisor is calculated from the obtained quantization levels of the small blocks. The quantization step size used for actual quantization is decided from the common divisor and the reference quantization step size.
