Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain quartzite brick, improved in thermal spalling resistance and useful for hot rebuilding and repairing of oven wall brick of a coke oven by applying a platy protecting material for relaxing thermal shock to the surface of the quartzite brick.
CONSTITUTION: Quartzite brick for hot repairing is obtained by applying a platy protecting material for relaxing thermal shock to its surface. Organic combustible substances such as woody board, cardboard, cork or an acrylic resin is preferred as the platy protecting material. When the brick containing 30-70wt.% fused quartz and the remainder composed of quartzite is applied to the quartzite brick, its effects are remarkable. Since thermal shock is relaxed in carrying the quartzite brick from ordinary temperature into a hot atmosphere by applying the protecting material to the surface of the quartzite brick, the spalling resistance is remarkably improved.
