PURPOSE: To provide the new intermediate for preparing 1-cyclopropyl-1,4- dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acids which are useful as anti-bacterial agents.
CONSTITUTION: 1-Cyclopropyl-6,7-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acids are represented by formula I, these compounds are synthesized from 2,4,5- trifluorobenzoylfluoride as a starting substance. The compounds shown by formula IV useful as anti-bacterials are obtained by allowing compounds of formula II (wherein X1 is H or F; X2 is halogen particularly F or Cl) containing compounds of formula I to react, in the presence of an acid binding agent if suitable, with pyperazinyls of formula III (wherein R1 is H substitutable 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C oxoalkyl, phenacyl or 1-4C acyl; R2 is substitutable phenyl, cyclofuryl, tetrahydrofuryl or thienyl).
