PURPOSE: To obtain a novel protein which is obtained by expressing a gene fragment containing the base sequence coding a specific region of a glycoprotein of rabies virus in Escherichia coli, has immunogenicity and is useful as a rabies vaccine for mammalian with high safety and efficacy.
CONSTITUTION: A gene fragment containing a base sequence coding the sequence from the +1st to the 505th amino acids in the glycoprotein of rabies virus is incorporated into the downstream side of a promotor gene of an expression vector for Escherichia coli to effect its transformation. Then, the transformant is cultured to express the gene to give this novel recombinant rabies virus protein which has immunogenicity, can prevent human and animals from being infected with rabies virus with excellent safety and efficacy and is useful as an inexpensive recombinant rabies vaccine.
