To confirm the operation state of an electromagnetic brake from the outside by enhancing the stability of a radial braking type electromagnetic brake suitable for combination with a drive motor and during the braking of the electromagnetic brake.
A casing 10, an electromagnetic brake body 20 fixed on the casing 10, a rotary shaft 30 held rotatably on the casing 10, and a rotor 31 connected to the rotary shaft are provided. A permanent magnet is incorporated in the rotor 31, and rotary torque is generated by controlling energization to motor coils 12-15. Armatures 21a, 21b are provided on the outer periphery of the electromagnetic brake body 20 and in the inside of the rotor 31. The armature enables parallel movement in the radial direction to the electromagnetic brake body 20 by a guide member 50. When a hall element 60 is provided on a fixing part in the neighborhood of the armature 21a, the operation state of the electromagnetic brake can be easily confirmed from the outside on the basis of the output.
