PURPOSE: To provide a method for performing a radiographic assay of a warm- blooded animal by using a radioactive halo-aromatic diagnostic agent that can be prepared in a good yield. CONSTITUTION: The diagnostic agent (diagnostic composition) is produced by a method of producing a chloro-, bromo-, radioactive-bromo-, iodoand/or radioactive-iodo-aromatic compound by reacting a halogenated or diazonium- substituted compound corresponding to the above compound with a water-soluble chloride, bromide, radioactive bromide, iodide or radioactive iodide in the presence of a water-soluble acid or copper ions as a catalyst. At this time, this reaction is performed in the presence of at least one reducing agent which is stable in an acidic medium and the amount of which exceeds that of the catalyst. This method comprises administering the diagnostic composition to a warm-blooded animal; then, detecting radioactivity accumulated in the animal; and based on results of the detection, conducting an external radiography to the animal so as to determine the accumulated position in the animal body.
