Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for radical (co)polymerization by which good control is carried out in relation to various polymerization parameters and a block copolymer is obtained and to produce a (co)polymer obtained by the method.
SOLUTION: At least one of a (meth)acrylic monomer and/or a vinyl monomer is polymerized or copolymerized in a bulk, a solution, an emulsion or a suspension in the presence of an initiator system containing at least one radical former compound other than an arenesulfonyl chloride and at least one catalyst having a metallic complex represented by the formula MAa(L)n {M denotes Ni, Pd or Pt; A denotes a halogen or a pseudohalide; L denotes a ligand of a metal M and is independently selected from a ligand containing at least one of N, P, As, Sb and Bi; at least two of the ligands may mutually be connected with one or more bivalent groups; (a) is an integer of 1-5; (n) is an integer of 1-4; [(a)+(n)] indicating the coordination number of the complex is 4≤[(a)+(n)]≤6} at a temperature which may be as low as about 0°C.
