To provide a radio meter-reading system for suppressing the increase of a communication time due to the retransmission of communication in a radio master unit when communication between the radio master unit and a radio salve unit fails.
A portable radio unit 100 transmits a batch meter-reading request telegraphic message to radio slave units 200 connected to meter-reading equipment 300, and receives a response telegraphic message to the batch meter-reading request telegraphic message from each of the radio slave units 200. The portable radio unit 100 decides the classification of the factors of communication failure for every radio slave unit 200 which has failed in the reception of the response telegraphic message, and performs retry (retransmission) in categorized batch communication.
