PURPOSE: To prevent a malfunction from being generated in automatic channel selection by correcting the reception electric field strength of an AF station detected based on an AF code corresponding to that of an adjacent station, and selecting the AF station with the best reception electric field strength out of corrected reception electric field strength of the AF station.

CONSTITUTION: When the electric field strength of a station in performing reception goes less than a prescribed value in the case of activating an automatic follow-up function by an operating key 1, automatic follow-up is started based on the AF code. First of all, the electric field strength E0 of the AF station is detected. When the electric field strength E0 exceeds the prescribed value, the electric field strength of the frequency of ±100kHz of the AF station is checked. It is assumed that the electric field strength of the frequency of +100kHz of the AF station is E1, and that of the frequency of -100kHz is E2. Following that, the electric field strength E0 is corrected corresponding to the electric field strength E1 and E2. When the corrected reception electric field strength of the AF station exceeds the prescribed value, it is set as valid, and the AF station with the maximum reception electric field strength out of the the reception electric field strength of the AF station is selected. In such a way, it is possible to prevent the malfunction from being generated in the automatic channel selection in the case the broadcast station with strong electric field is located adjacently to the AF station.
