The rail type transport apparatus includes the traveling body 12 for transporting a transporting object along a rail body 14; and the rail body 14. The traveling body 12 includes a moving body 30 for supporting the transporting object; an actuator 32 for moving the moving body 30; an engagement part 34 moved through engagement with an engagement part 24 of the rail body 14; a first rail grip body 40 fixed to the moving body 30 at the midpoint of the rail body 14 so as to be free to contact with and separate from a grip position of the rail body 14; and a second rail grip body 46 fixed to the moving body 30 at the midpoint of the rail body 14 so as to be free to contact with and separate from the grip position of the rail body 14.
