PURPOSE: To easily produce a Raney catalyst in a short time, to reduce the cost of production, to attain a high rate of removal of NO in a low temp. region and to apply the catalyst as an exhaust gas purification catalyst by sintering a powdery Raney catalyst consisting of Al, Ti and Pt with plasma in a briquette shape.

CONSTITUTION: A powdery Raney catalyst consisting of Al, Ti and Pt is sintered with plasma in a briquette shape to obtain the objective Raney catalyst. At the time of producing this catalyst, Al is leached from a powdery Raney alloy consisting of Al, Ti and Pt to form a porous powdery Raney catalyst and this catalyst is compacted in a prescribed shape and caked by plasma sintering under the conditions of 2,000kg/cm2 surface pressure and 45-60sec pulse discharge time. The objective Raney catalyst is easily produced in a short time, the cost of production is reduced, a high rate of removal of NO is attained in a low temp. region and the catalyst is applied as the exhaust gas purification catalyst of a diesel engine.
