Title:
RAPID FREEZING PLANT FOR ELECTRON MICROSCOPE AND THE LIKE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2893218
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To expand a range of amorphous ice safely and less expensively by making at least one of static electrical field, static magnetic field, supersonic wave and light work to a sample just before rapid freezing of the sample.
CONSTITUTION: A vessel 1 contains a liquid nitrogen 3 and a liquid helium 5 which is separated by a separating wall 2. Into the helium 5, a copper block 6 is supported and chilled down there. Under the condition that a shutter 11 above the block 6 is opened and static electrical field is formed between electrodes 15 and 16, a living sample 14 containing water is dropped down from a dropper mechanism 13. The sample 14 is rapidly chilled down by time order of 10-4 to 10-5 second. In this way, 3 to 5 times expanded range compared to ordinary one can be formed by using solely the liquid nitrogen 3. And also, means using static electrical field, static magnetic field, supersonic wave, light and so on has no adverse effect of leakage in such a case of a microwave irradiation method and therefore a much safer, less expensive, small sized and light weighed device can be intended to be realized.
