To obtain a new compound useful as a producing raw material of a bisazo compound useful as a practically highly sensitive electrophotographic photoreceptor for a high-speed copying machine or for a laser printer, especially as an organic photoconductor for a lamination-type photoreceptor.
This compound is 1,4-bis[4-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-butadienyl]benzene of formula I, 1,4-bis[4-(4-aminophenyl)-1,3-butadienyl]benzene of formula II and a bis(diazonium salt) compound of formula III (X- is an anion functional group). The compound of the formula I is obtained by reacting a bis(phosphonium salt) of formula IV with 4-nitrocinnamaldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst at a room temperature to about 100°C, and the compound of formula II is obtained by heating the resultant compound at 70-120°C by using iron-hydrochloric acid, etc., as a reducing agent, and further, the compound of formula III is obtained by dispersing the resultant compound of formula II into an inorganic acid such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, and diazotizing by adding sodium nitrite at -10°C to +20°C.
