Abstract:
Provided is a material feeding method in which a glass material is dropped from a hopper onto a feeder pan and the feeder pan is reciprocated to feed the glass material on the feeding surface of the feeder pan into a melting bath of a glass melting furnace. In the material feeding method, when the feeder pan moves forward from an upstream end in a feeding direction to a downstream end in the feeding direction, a cutter that can be inserted into the glass material on the feeding surface moves to a stand-by position above the glass material on the feeding surface. When the feeder pan moves backward from the downstream end in the feeding direction to the upstream end in the feeding direction, the cutter moves to an insertion position where the cutter is inserted into the glass material on the feeding surface. At the same time when the feeder pan moves backward, the cutter stopped at the insertion position pushes out, relatively from the feeder pan, at least a part of the glass material on the downstream side of the feeding direction from the cutter and feeds the pushed-out glass material into the melting bath.
