Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To substantially reduce a leakage between upper and lower chambers by installing baffle plates and each of reaction pipes closely together, in a multitubular heat exchanger-type reactor.
SOLUTION: In a multitubular heat exchanger-type reactor partitioned into a plurality of segments by baffle plates in a reactor shell, a reaction pipe is diametrally expanded and tightly fitted into one or more pieces of groove formed in the reaction pipe fitting part of the baffle plates and thus an intermediate tubular plate is obtained, by which a plurality of chambers are formed. In addition, a expansion joint is provided around the cylinder of each of the chambers. This reactor for contact gas phase oxidation is characterized by the described intrashell structure and a method for manufacturing a methacrylic acid using the reactor.
