To provide a reactor capable of forming a zone where the fluid flowing in conduits flows through uniformly and a catalytic reaction does not occur at need without forming a temperature distribution in a direction perpendicular to the flow direction of a reaction medium in order to realize optimization and an optimum selection rate.
The reactor for effecting the catalytic reaction to highly generate or absorb the heat in the process fluid has plural plates (1) which are arranged in parallel to each other apart spaced intervals. These plates form lateral boundary surfaces facing each other and form the flat conduits between these boundary surfaces. The plates on one side among these conduits house the solid catalyst and guide the process fluid and the plates on the other side among these plates introduce the heat transfer medium which comes into an indirect thermal contact state with the process fluid. The plates are flat and have grooves or undulations and at least portions of the surfaces of the plates facing the process fluid side are covered by catalysts (6).
