The reader for reading out an information code displayed on a display surface has a reading part packaged in a reader body, the reading part has a light source for irradiating the information code with light, a transparent window capable of transmitting light from the light source to the outside is formed on a wall surface of the reader body, the reading part has an imaging means for picking up an image of the information code by reading out light emitted from the light source, passing through the transparent window and reflected by the display surface of the information code, and the positions of the light source and the imaging means are related to each other so that the optical path of light emitted from the light source and reflected by the display surface of the information code coincides with an optical axis of the imaging means.
